About Us

Welcome to the Missions Office of the Diocese of Orange where our mission is to promote faith in Jesus Christ in mission lands throughout the world. Together, four Pontifical Mission Societies make one family in mission. Please be a part of our family as we work to inform Catholics about the Church’s worldwide missionary work and encourage their active participation –through prayer and sacrifice – in those efforts. Learn more about what we do and how you can help by reading below and exploring our site.

The Society for the Propagation of the Faith

The Society for the Propagation of the Faith, founded in 1822, invites all baptized Catholics to participate in the worldwide mission of the Church by offering their prayers, personal sacrifices, or by giving financial help. Through an annual collection on World Mission Sunday, celebrated in Mid-October, Catholics throughout the world recommit themselves to the Church’s missionary activity. Along with World Mission Sunday, our annual Summer Missionary Cooperative Plan gives Catholics in our diocese the opportunity to hear from missionaries first hand and make a considerable impact in the work that they do.

Holy Childhood Association

The Holy Childhood Association encourages children in grades K-8 to be missionaries TODAY by sharing their love and their faith in Jesus with children all over the world. Since the beginning of HCA in France in 1843, young people have been a source of prayer and sacrifices offered for their brothers and sisters in the Missions who did not know about Jesus and His “Good News.”

The Society of St. Peter Apostle

The goal of The Society of St. Peter Apostle since 1889 is to invite inpiduals to support the education of candidates for the Catholic priesthood in the Developing World and to support the formation of men and women candidates for the Religious life in the Missions. Today there are some 30,000 seminarians studying in 500 major seminaries that require assistance on their journey to ordination.

Missionary Union of Priests and Religious

The spiritual apostolate of the Missionary Union was started in 1916 to inspire those called to bring Catholics to a better understanding of their baptismal responsibility for the church’s missionary work — to priests, religious, seminarians, pastoral leaders and those engaged in catechesis and religious education. The success of the three other missionary societies is linked to the vitality of animators inspiring other animators to “go to all nations and proclaim the ‘Good News.’”
