Did you know...

The town of Diadema in Brazil has a population of over 350,000 and one of the highest rates of homicides, assaults, vehicle crashes and gang violence. In July 2002, a law was passed ordering bars, nightclubs, and other places that sell alcohol for on-premises consumption, to close at 11:00p.m. The affects of the law reduced murder rates to almost half. 273 lives were saved in the first two years following the laws implementation.

What have we learned here folks???

Incarceration rates are much lower for foreign-born adults (297 per 1000,000) than for U.S.-born adults (813 per 1000,000).

One can only wonder why society in general doesn't believe this.

A 2005 survey shows California has the largest state prison population in the United States. Did you know…..you can purchase stock in the prison system?

Hmmm….is there some connection here???

64 percent of female inmates have children under the age of 18 – and over half of these mothers were living with their children at the time of their arrest.

Wonder what’s become of these children?

The latest studies show 56% of those incarcerated have some type of mental illness.

Treatment or Jail???

Prisoners in general are more likely to be serving sentences for violent offenses than in the past. Violent offenders now constitute a majority (just over 50%) of prisoners, and their share is growing. In contrast, the share of drug offenders is declining – 28 to 21 percent in the past 6 years. Part of this decline results from Proposition 36, which passed in 2000 and diverts non-violent drug offenders from prison to treatment centers.

We’re finally starting to get it!!!

The number of military veterans incarcerated is 25% on a national average.

To serve and not be served!
