YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!

POSTAGE STAMPS ARE NEEDED

Every year we collect thousands of donated Christmas Cards that are given to adult inmates and minors housed in O.C. jails and juvenile detention facilites.  Receiving the cards gives them a little dignity knowing they have something to give their family members during the holiday's.  Postage stamps are badly needed to put on the envelops that come with the cards.   Currently we have enough cards to provide for this Christmas 2012, but are short on postatage stamps.  Please forward all donation to the RJ/DM Office.  (Contact information located on Home Page)

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR JUVENILE RETREATS

Retreats are held between Juvenile Hall and the Orange County Youth Guidance Center (YGC) three times per year. Many of the youth who attend have never been on a retreat before. The experience is often life changing, for both youth and volunteer. The retreats begin on Friday evening and continue on Saturday morning and into the evening. There are several team meetings required to attend in weeks prior to the retreat.

If you or anyone from your faith community is interested in working a retreat please contact the RJ/CD Office for dates and times. One-time clearances are available for those who do not already have I.D. badges.

LIGHTS ON”
VOLUNTEERS AND DONATIONS NEEDED
TO HELP INMATES UPON RELEASE

St. Vincent de Paul's Lights On Program is an RV that parks outside the Central Jail Complex 7 days per week assisting inmates being released between the hours of 10:00p.m. – 4:00a.m.  Although the project is funded and operated by St. Vincent de Paul, RJ/DM works in collaborative partnership supporting  Lights On's efforts to assist the immediate needs of inmates released from jail onto the streets in the middle of the night with little or no resources for re-entry.

The Lights On RV is stocked with donated resources that inmates are immediately in need of when exiting the jail.  Specific donations needed are as follows:

  • Coffee
  • Sugar, Equal, and Creamer
  • Paper cups, napkins and plastic spoons
  • Snacks, doughnuts/sweet rolls
  • Bottles of drinking water
  • Cigarettes
  • The following clothing items ONLY: cloose toed shoes or boots, jackets, large size sweats.
  • Cash
  • Non-dated Daily Bus Passes (packs of 10 preferred)

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Office duties
  • Working on site (in shifts ok)
  • Making calls
  • Scheduling volunteers
  • Tracking supplies kept on motor home
  • Motor home cleaning & maintenance
  • Training new volunteers
  • Marketing and promotion

For some, Lights On is a released inmates only life link for keeping safe and sober during those most vulnerable hours after release.

Please forward all LIGHTS ON Volunteer Inquiries and Donations to:
